What we collect
Mealish is built to need as little of your data as possible. You can use it without an account: importing, cooking, grocery lists and meal planning all work signed out. An account is optional, and only needed if you want your recipes backed up, Pro to follow you to a new phone, or family sharing.
- Your email address, if you choose to create an account. You can sign in with a one-time code sent to your email, or with Google or Apple. We never ask for a password. If you sign in with Google or Apple, they also give us the name on that account. Accounts are handled by Supabase on our behalf.
- Recipes you save are stored on your device. We don't store them on our servers after we send them back to you.
- URLs you import from are sent to our server so we can fetch and parse the recipe. We don't keep these.
- Photos you import — a pantry photo, a cookbook page, a screenshot — are sent to our server and to OpenAI to read the ingredients. They're processed and discarded; we don't store them, and they aren't used to train AI models (per OpenAI's API terms).
- Family pool data — if you create or join a household, the join code, your nickname, and any recipes you explicitly share are stored on our server so the other family members' phones can sync them.
- A device identifier, used to count how many free AI imports a device has used, so the free tier can't be reset by clearing the app's data.
- Usage events via PostHog — which features get used, so we know what to improve. Tied to a random identifier, not to your name or email.
- Purchase status via RevenueCat, so the app knows whether Pro is active. See Subscriptions below.
- Crash reports via the App Store / Google Play if you opt in during install. We don't see who you are.
The companies named above — Supabase, OpenAI, RevenueCat, PostHog — process this data on our behalf so the app can work. We don't sell it to anyone or hand it over for advertising.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your data.
- We don't share your data with advertisers.
- We don't train AI models on your recipes.
- We don't read your other apps, contacts, photos, or files.
Subscriptions
Mealish Pro is processed by Apple App Store or Google Play directly. We see only an anonymized subscription receipt from them via RevenueCat — we never see your credit card or billing address. You manage cancellation through your store account.
Your data is portable
Settings → Your data → Export. You can download a JSON-LD copy (the open recipe standard) or a full Mealish backup file at any time.
Deleting your data
If you made an account, you can delete it from inside the app — the account button on the Recipes screen, then Your plan → Delete account. That removes your email address and the Google or Apple identity linked to it, and takes you out of any family pool. See how to delete your account for the full detail, including how to ask us by email if you can no longer open the app.
Recipes saved on your phone aren't ours to delete — they never left the device. Uninstalling the app removes them. Leaving the family pool removes your contributions from there.
