What we collect
Mealish is built to need as little of your data as possible. We don't ask for your email, phone number, or name. The app works without an account.
- Recipes you save are stored on your device. We don't store them on our servers after we send them back to you.
- URLs you import from are sent to our server so we can fetch and parse the recipe. We don't keep these.
- Pantry photos are sent to OpenAI's vision API for ingredient detection. They aren't stored on our side or used for AI training (per OpenAI's API terms).
- Family pool data — if you create or join a household, the join code, your nickname, and any recipes you explicitly share are stored on our server so the other family members' phones can sync them.
- Anonymous usage events via PostHog so we can tell which features are useful. No personal identifiers.
- Crash reports via the App Store / Google Play if you opt in during install. We don't see who you are.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your data.
- We don't share your data with advertisers.
- We don't train AI models on your recipes.
- We don't read your other apps, contacts, photos, or files.
Subscriptions
Mealish Pro is processed by Apple App Store or Google Play directly. We see only an anonymized subscription receipt from them via RevenueCat — we never see your credit card or billing address. You manage cancellation through your store account.
Your data is portable
Settings → Your data → Export. You can download a JSON-LD copy (the open recipe standard) or a full Mealish backup file at any time. Delete the app to delete your local data; leave the family pool to remove your contributions from there.
